Genius is a song lyrics app developed by Genius Media Group, Inc. on August 27, 2009. Earlier when Genius was started, it was a crowdsourced site majorly focused on hip-hop. Hence, named Rap Exegesis. However, Exegesis was tough to spell out the users. Furthermore, they change it to Rap Genius, and then the Genius came. And it stuck.
